On maternity leave and launching a gym, Jess and Mic needed more than standard advice, they needed a partner. With Rachael’s guidance on super investments, ABN structuring, business acquisition and tailored insurance, they’ve secured both their family’s and business’s future.

Video transcript

My name’s Jess. At the moment, I’m on maternity leave, but normally I’m a practice lead with Goodstart Early Learning. I’ve been in early childhood for about 18 years now, and now I support teachers in being the best kind of teacher they can be.

I’m Mic, and I run a gym—Fitstop over at Milton. I’ve been a PT for about a year and a bit. I swapped over from warehousing, which I did for about a decade. So it’s relatively new, but yeah.

I started working with Rach probably six or seven years ago, when I first started looking at my superannuation. That was the first part of it. Rach did a whole heap of work investing in the right places and kind of skyrocketed my super balance in about a year. That’s been good.

That then led into more work with our insurances—life insurance and things like that—making sure that we’ve got everything ready for our daughter as she gets older.

The confidence Rachael gives is amazing.

When I started as a PT, I came in and Rach helped me look at the best possible way to set up an ABN, or which way to structure the business.

Right now, we’re looking at purchasing our business as well—knowing that the way it’ll be structured protects our assets but also puts it in a position where we’re not overreaching.

Being cautious and doing it the right way means we’re not putting ourselves in a situation that opens us up for trouble down the track.

She’s always got our best interests at heart. I know that when we come and see Rach and Kurt, any decision we make—they’ve got our best interests at heart. So we trust everything they’re giving us.

I think the difference with what Rach and Kurt and the team do here is that they make it feel like family.

When you walk in the door, they know who you are. They know your history. They pay attention to what you’ve been up to.

So you walk in with a sense of calm, and you just know that it’s going to feel like a chat—not something scary.

They make finance really relatable. It’s easy to talk about. We do it with a lot of laughter and fun, which makes it even easier.

Under the guidance of Rachel and the team, I feel much more confident than if I was doing it on my own. I feel more comfortable.

She does it in McDonald’s!

And that’s the thing—it’s so complicated, there are so many things to know, and there’s a lot of other things going on in life.

So we can walk in and know they’re up to date, they’re qualified, and they keep up to date with everything that needs to be done.

Their advice is current. You don’t have to stress about tax laws changing or missing something. If something changes, they let you know.

You don’t have to be looking at the tax code or anything you have no idea about. That’s why you come in—they know this stuff.

We come in with ideas about what we want to do next, and they work the ideas into reality—into what’s actually possible while keeping everything above board.

For someone considering advice, just bite the bullet and walk in the door.

I can absolutely say they’ll walk out feeling more confident about themselves, more confident about what their financial path is going to be.

They’ve got the team and the support around them for any question—no matter how silly they think it is.

They’ve heard that question a million times. That’s the big part of coming to Rach and the team.

Do it early. I made the mistake of not getting into the property market because of misconceptions early on.

Just do it. Get started. Get good advice.

Don’t go buy an investment property based on something you read on the internet.

You think you’ll save money, and next thing you know, you’re up the creek without a paddle.

If you get the right advice, you only have to do it once. Make sure you’re covered properly instead of winging it.

There’s so much information out there, but most of it isn’t relevant to you. It may not even have your best interests at heart—it’s just a general article.

When you come in to the team, they can get really specific and give you current, precise advice that’s right for you.

And the younger you start, the better.

I really, really wish I’d done what I’m doing now 10 years ago. The difference would be massive. But there’s no better time to start than now.

For someone who doesn’t really know what a financial planner is—just come in and ask the question.

They’re there to support you in making decisions that’ll benefit you 10, 20 years down the track.

I was lucky I came in when I was a little younger, and I had the support of Rach. Even now, I still lean on her as much as I can—because she’s got our best interests at heart.

There’s always a better way to do something.

We’re currently working through a change in things at the moment, and there’s already a better way to do what we’ve been doing for the last three years.

That’s going to change what the next 20 years looks like.

Honestly, the support we’ve had from Rach and the team has been incredible.

What we’ve achieved in the last three years—and what the vision is for the next 20—is going to be really exciting.

We’ve got new ways of thinking. And I don’t think our plan—what Mick calls our “Empire”—would be as exciting as it is without the support of Rachel and the team.

There’s nothing wrong with coming and having a chat.

If nothing comes from it—fine. But just ask.

There’s so much you don’t know, and you could spend so much time trying to figure it out.

It’s so much more efficient to go to someone who knows the stuff you don’t.

If you want to get healthy or you’re sick, you go to a doctor.

If you want to understand your finances, go to a financial planner.

Go to the right people for the right information—and you’ll be sorted. There’s no issue with that.
